FOR TODAY

Looking out my window… it’s a very grey day with no wind. We’ve had sooo much wind this summer, but I don’t want to complain because it has kept the bugs down. The temperatures have gotten down to freezing a couple times and a few of the leaves are starting to turn colors, but so far we have not had any frosts.

I am thankful… for a good friend who came up to fill in at the radio station while one of our staff was on vacation. His help in covering on-air shifts is a huge blessing.

I am thinking… of schedules and calendars and all the new activities and meetings that I need to keep track of this time of year. It’s not routine yet and so takes more thought to remember and keep straight.

One of my favorite things… seeing how God works and answers prayer.

I am creating … a case for my crochet hooks. I enjoy crocheting because it is easy to pick up and set down in between helping kids with school work.

I am hearing… kids working on a science experiment in the kitchen, little ones playing downstairs, the quiet after the dryer finished (it is needs a new part and is very noisy).

In the kitchen… I’ve enjoyed using the dehydrator which Scott got me for Christmas last year to preserve garden produce. Soon now I’ll be canning veggies. Kara is trying another cheesecake recipe.

In the garden… No frosts yet, mean things are still growing. I’m grateful for the extra growing time this year since my plants seem to have been slow to grow this year. Thanks to an awesome work team this summer, progress has been made toward expanding the front garden area.

In the school room… We officially started the new school year two weeks ago and the kids are doing well overall at adjusting. I finished one high-schooler (Matthew graduated), but gained another (Caleb). So we still have 3 in high school. Gabe is officially a ‘big kid’ now and doing schoolwork that is more independent which is a good thing for me since I now have both Elaina and Thomas to work with.

Around the house… the work team this summer also helped make my dream of a play space in the yard for the little kids a reality. It’s nice having a designated place to for their toys which isn’t right next to the front door. They are enjoying having dirt they can dig in to their hearts’ content.
